About Our Pochampally Sarees
Pochampally sarees take their name from Bhoodan Pochampally and the surrounding weaving villages in Telangana's Yadadri Bhuvanagiri district. The craft — locally called Paagadu Bandhu or Chitki, and known internationally as ikat — dyes the yarn in patterns before it's ever put on the loom, so the geometric, slightly soft-edged motifs you see are built into the thread itself. Pochampally ikat received India's Geographical Indication tag in 2005.
This collection includes both single and double ikat weaves, in pure cotton, pure silk, and semi-silk. The double ikat pieces — where both the warp and weft threads are separately tie-dyed before weaving — include several in the Telia Rumal style, a distinctive dark, oil-treated double-ikat pattern from the same Telangana tradition. Silk pieces here also carry a Kanjivaram-style border, pairing two South Indian weaving traditions in one saree.

What makes a saree "Pochampally"?
It's named for Pochampally and the neighboring weaving villages in Telangana, where the yarn is tie-dyed into pattern before weaving — the ikat technique. This is different from block-printed or embroidered sarees, where the pattern is added after the fabric is woven. Pochampally ikat holds a GI (Geographical Indication) tag.
What's the difference between single and double ikat?
Single ikat dyes only the warp or the weft thread; double ikat dyes both, so the pattern locks into place from two directions at once. Double ikat is more labor-intensive and is the technique behind the Telia Rumal pieces in this collection.
